Anjar is an ancient city in Lebanon. It was founded in the 8th century by Umayyad Caliphg Al-Walid ibn Abdel Malek but was abondoned, leaving the structures relatively well preserved. Modern-day Anjar is a town inhabited almost entirely by ethnic Armenians. The population swells in summer, when the Armenian dispora return to visit.

Anjar was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 8th session of the World Heritage Committee in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 29 October to 2 November, 1984.
