[an error occurred while processing this directive][an error occurred while processing this directive] Banc d'Arguin National Park is a natural property in Mauritania is recognized by as a World Heritage Site. Located along the Atlantic coastline, Banc d'Arguin is a stretch of sand dunes, coastal swamps, off shore islands and coastal shallows. The park is located between Nouakchott and Nouadhibou.

Banc d'Arguin National Park has a rich diversity of wildlife, especially birds. Between 25,000 to 40,000 pairs of nesting birds live within the park boundaries. It is the site of one of the biggest water bird colonies in West Africa.

The ecosystem at Banc d'Arguin National Park has so far been kept relatively unspoilt. Its wealth of biodiversity is due to its vast expanse of marshland. The area supports important communities of fish, birds and marine mammals.

Banc d'Arguin National Park was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 10th session of the World Heritage Committee in Paris, France, 24 - 28 November, 1986.
