The Discovery Coast Atlantic Forest Reserves cover 112,000 hectares of Brazil's Atlantic coast. Contained in eight separate protected areas, the forest reserves are the world's richest in terms of biodiversity. There are so many species within them that are endemic to the area, making them of great interest not only to scientists but also importance places to conserve.

The Discovery Coast Atlantic Forest Reserves were made a World Heritage Site, along with the Atlantic Forest South East Reserves during the 23rd session of the World Heritage Committee in Marrakesh, Morocco on 29 November to 4 December, 1999.
