[an error occurred while processing this directive]El Tajin, Pre-Hispanic City, Mexico

[an error occurred while processing this directive][an error occurred while processing this directive] El Tajin is a pre-historic city in the state of Veracruz, Mexico, that is today a World Heritage Site. The city flourished from the 7th to the 13th century AD, and reached its height from the early 9th to the early 13th century. Located in northeastern Mesoamerica, El Tajin filled the vacuum left by the decline of the Teotihuacán Empire.

El Tajin retains many of the features of Mesoamerican ruins. Within the well-preserved sites are various monuments including the ancient ball courts and stepped pyramids. However there are elements to the design and decorative arts at El Tajin that are unique and set it apart from other Mesoamerican sites. The city has declined even before the arrival of the Spanish.
