Fortress of Suomenlinna is a fortress built by Sweden during the second half of the 18th century. The fortress was built on a group of islands at the approach to Helsinki's harbour. It is representative of the style of European military architecture of its time.

Fortress of Suomenlinna was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 15th session of the World Heritage Committee which met in Carthage, Tunisia, on 9 - 13 December, 1991.

Visiting Fortress of Suomenlinna

The Fortress of Suomenlinna is located in Helsinki's harbor. You can take the metro, trams, buses and trains in Helsinki to visit the sights in the city. To reach the fortress of Suomenlinna, take a HKL ferry from Market Square for €3.80. Guided tours are available at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm from June to August week days for €7.00 per person.
