The Historic Centre of Guimarães is a World Heritage Site in Braga District, Portugal. The significance of this city is that it was here that the national identity of Portugal came into being.

 The historic center of Guimarães contains numerous houses and buildings that showcase the evolution of the city from a medieval settlement into a modern town. Many of the buildings are are well preserved, and provide visitors a glimpse into the development of Portuguese architecture from the 15th to the 19th century.

Historic Centre of Guimarães was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 25th session of the World Heritage Committee in Helsinki, Finland, on 11 - 16 December, 2001.
