[an error occurred while processing this directive][an error occurred while processing this directive] Historic Centre of Morelia is a World Heritage Site in Guayangareo Valley, in the state of Michoacán, in central Mexico. It is celebrated as a well-preserved city that bears elements of a fusion between Spanish Renaissance and indigenous architectural styles.

Morelia was founded by Viceroy Antonio de Mendoza in 1541, and was originally known as Valladolid. The Guayangareo Valley has been inhabited since as early as the 7th century, and artifacts discovered show that the pre-Columbian culture bears the influence of Teotihuacán culture.

The outstanding universal value exhibited by Morelia's historic centre today stems from the well-preserve nature of its historic buildings. Some two hundred buildings, in the region's characteristic pink stone, are still standing today. The streets of Morelia has remained largely unchanged from its original layout, and this provides a fascinating glimpse into how the Spanish fused their town planning knowledge with local Mesoamerican experience.

Historic Centre of Morelia was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 15th session of the World Heritage Committee in Carthage, Tunisia, 9 - 13 December, 1991.
