The famous St Procopius' Basilica dates back to the 12th century, when it began as a Benedictine monastery. The monastery was so well endowed that it led to the establishment of a commercial centre around it, and thus the city of Trebic came into being.

The Jewish Quarter and the St Procopius' Basilica were inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 27th session of the World Heritage Committee meeting in Paris, France, on 30 June to 5 July, 2003.
