 Litomyšl Castle, Czech Republic
Litomyšl Castle is a castle in the town of Litomyšl, in the Pardubice Region, in the Czech Republic. The monumental castle dates back to 1568-81. It was originally designed in the Italian Renaissance style, but readapted to conform to Central European architecture.
The complex of buildings within Litomyšl Castle was where the famous Czech composer Bedřich Smetana was born. These buildings are build around an elongated square - one of the largest in the country - comprising a Town Hall in the Gothic style, and a series of houses in the Renaissance and Baroque styles.
Litomyšl Castle was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 23rd session of the World Heritage Committee which met in Marrakesh, Morocco, from 29 November to 4 December, 1999.
