Malpelo Island is an island on the Pacific Ocean, 506 km off the coast of Colombia. It is surrounded by a vast marine park which is also the largest no-fishing zone in the Eastern Tropical Pacific Ocean.

Malpelo Island has lots of marine life, and is particularly rich in shark species. It is also home to many endangered marine life such as the short-nosed ragged-toothed shark, the deepwater shark, the giant grouper and the billfish.

The Malpelo Fauna and Flora Sanctuary, encompassing the island and its marine park, was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 30th session of the World Heritage Committee in Vilnius, Lithuania, on 8-16 July, 2006.
