 Sun Temple of Konârak, India
Sun Temple of Konârak is a Hindu temple in Puri district, Konark, in the state of Orissa. This magnificent temple was built in the 13th century, and is one of the most famous Brahman sanctuaries in India. It was built of oxidizing and weathered sandstone, which gives it the reddish color. The construction of the Sun Temple is attributed to King Narasimhadeva (AD 1236-1264).

The Sun Temple is also known as the Black Pagoda. It depicts the chariot of the sun god Surya. At its entrance is a pair of giant lions. The entrance is also where temple dancers perform to entertain the sun god. The temple is from the Kalinga architectural style, as reflected in its curvilinear towers topped by cupolas.
Sun Temple of Konârak was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 8th session of the World Heritage Committee in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 29 October - 2 November, 1984.
