[an error occurred while processing this directive][an error occurred while processing this directive] Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra is a protected forest in Indonesia that is recognised as a World Heritage Site under the natural category. The protected forest covers three national parks in Sumatra namely the Gunung Leuser National Park (8629.75 sq km), Kerinci Seblat National Park (13,753.5 sq km) and the Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park (3568 sq km). It total, the protected area of the Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra encompasses 2,595,124 hectares.

The Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra protected areas are places rich in biodiversity that still holds excellent examples of tropical lowland and montane forests. The national parks cover the mountainous terrain straddling the main range of Sumatra, the Bukit Barisan Mountains. Among the sights in the area is Lake Gunung Tujuh, which is the highest lake in Southeast Asia, the Mount Kerinci volcano, and evidence of glacial remains in the now tropical forest setting.

The Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra protected area is home to over 580 different species of birds, of which 465 species are resident to the area and 21 species are endemic. There are also 200 species of mammals, including the Sumatran orang-utan, and over 10,000 species of plants. Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 28th session of the World Heritage Committee in Suzhou, China, 28 June - 7 July, 2004.
