The Völklingen Ironworks or Völklinger Hütte is the only ironworks built in the 19th and 20th centuries that is still intact in western Europe and North America. Covering an area of some 6 hectares in Völklingen, Saarland, provides a glimpse into the industrial past in Saarland. It has only recently gone out of production, in as late as 1986.

Today the ironworks of Völklingen is a museum with interactive displays on how iron was made. Visitors can tour the factory and get to know the processes.

The Völklingen ironworks was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the X session of the World Heritage Committee
